Human Intelligence

Human intelligence has been defined in many ways including as one's capacity for logic, abstract thought, understanding, self-awareness, communication, learning, emotional knowledge, memory, planning, creativity, and problem-solving. It can be more generally described as the ability to perceive or infer information and to retain it as knowledge to be applied towards adaptive behaviors within an environment or context. Synonyms for human intelligence include mental acuity, reasonableness, sagacity, sharpness, wit, and aptitude. The term “intelligent” is also often used to describe someone who is very quick to understand or learn something new. However, the word intelligent can also, while rarely, be used in a derogatory way to describe someone who is perceived as snobby or conceited. When talking about human intelligence, it is important to remember that everyone has their own unique abilities and talents. Just because someone may not excel in one area does not mean they are not intelligent. Everyone has the potential to be intelligent in their own way.
